Welcome to Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes. We pray that we can be a part of your personal growth in Christ Jesus the Lord. As an introduction to the church, here is a brief account of our heritage.

We are part of a fellowship of churches founded by Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in California. In 1977, Bil Gallatin was called from serving with Pastor Chuck, to simply start a home bible study in the Farmington, NY area. The Holy Spirit was bringing the “Jesus Movement” to the East! Bil was soon teaching several studies each week, which quickly led to Maranatha Fellowship being established in the tiny hamlet of Pumpkin Hook. As with many revivals, growth was rapid, and, a short time later, the church moved to Victor, NY. A few years thereafter, an even larger facility was needed, and, in 1985, the church relocated to its current address in Farmington, NY.

At the same time, since the church’s roots and leadership were so firmly founded in Calvary Chapel, it was determined that we change the name to Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes. Following Pastor Chuck’s model, it was, and continues to be, a teaching ministry, where the Bible is taught from Genesis to Revelation, line upon line, to nourish God’s sheep. Pastor Bil served as the church’s senior pastor until 2003, at which time, Scott Gallatin assumed that position and dedicated himself to maintaining his father’s vision. In Pastor Scott’s words:

“With a heavy emphasis on the Scriptures, everything we do is aimed at discipleship. Jesus Christ is the Head of the church. We know we are here for a reason and Jesus has given us a very clear mission. That mission is to make disciples.”

Unexpectedly, after 21 years of faithfully tending his Lord’s flock, Pastor Scott went home to his Shepherd in April, 2024. Amid our shock and grief, God has reminded us of His promises, His presence and His purposes. So we will continue to teach the inspired, authoritative Word of God, proclaiming the good news of the gospel to all and living lives that bring honor to our Lord Jesus Christ while we wait expectantly for His return.

Thank you for visiting our site. We would consider it an honor to help you in your spiritual walk.

All glory to God,

Pastor John VanScott
